.10 ASHA CEUs
This webinar qualifies for ASHA’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in
Education, Training, Service Delivery, Public Policy requirements.
Academic programs in communication sciences and disorders (CSD) have spent a
great deal of effort in the recruitment and retention of a diverse student
body. Similarly, as the number of clinical graduate programs increases,
programs have focused on not only recruiting qualified faculty, but also
supporting their career pathways to promotion and tenure. Data from multiple
sources can help us examine the gains we are making, as well as areas for
continued work in the CSD education pathways. This webinar will incorporate
data from the CSD Education Survey, CSDCAS Applicant Data Report, ASHA
membership surveys, ASHA Membership and Affiliation Counts, and the Final
Report of the Ad Hoc Committee to Plan Next Steps to Redesign Entry-Level
Education for Speech-Language Pathologists. Additionally, we will explore
current research and programs in the areas of holistic admissions, student and
faculty mentoring, and research education to identify how ASHA and CAPCSD are
supporting academic programs as they adapt to meet the changing needs of a
changing population.
Learning Objectives
- Describe three trends in student diversity in audiology and speech-language pathology academic programs in the U.S.
- Discuss three types of programs and initiatives focused on increasing diversity in CSD academic programs.
